Nick Zegel is somehow one of the most productive creative guys I know in 2010. He came to me last Saturday about getting some music together for a little video short he made for Shepard Fairey's build up for his May 1st Deitch Projects exhibition. The track playing in the video is a rough edit of something that is in the works for my upcoming full length. Thank you to Nick Zegel and Shepard Fairey for making it happen!

After a long battle with cancer, Guru of Gangstarr has passed away. Anything that could and should be said about his contribution to hiphop and music in general already has. "Hard to Earn" opened the doors to eastcoast hiphop to me by way of older skate friends who in 1997-98 began to put me on to the skating and the music coming out of the eastcoast that would soon completely enamor me. I remember the summer of '98 was mostly spent being squished in the backseat of an already filled Honda Civic or laid out in the truck bed of someone's pickup, going from skatespot to skatespot, with Gangstarr's "Hard to Earn" playing over and over. And then I remember doing just the same with "Moment of Truth"; except now I was the driver, taking kids from spot to spot, opening them up to a sound that was/is just simply classic and legendary.

On Monday night, jazz drummer Steve Reid past away. Hands down a outstanding drummer and a true legend. Reid is one of the many reasons why I aspire to make good music. More info here.

New year, new website, and hopefully sometime soon: new music. I'm attempting to be more internet-oriented this year, using this space to put up mixtapes and new tracks and post any news about Las Flores Project and friends, shows, etc. For now, as it's been for the past almost year, I will be back in the studio, pushing to get a new record out by summer or fall.
